Assam, Meghalaya CMs Meet Nirmala Sitharaman, Seek Fresh Push for External Projects

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and sought a renewed push for Externally Aided Projects (EAPs) in the two northeastern states. The meeting focused on increasing capital expenditure in the Northeast and creating fresh avenues for investment in physical and social infrastructure, Assam CM said in a post on X. CM Sarma said the two chief ministers made a strong case for giving fresh impetus to the implementation of externally aided projects in Assam and Meghalaya. According to CM Sarma, Sitharaman responded positively to the proposal and assured the chief ministers of a renewed push from the Centre to advance the development agenda in the region. Externally aided projects are expected to provide additional financial support for development initiatives, particularly in sectors linked to physical and social infrastructure. The discussions come as Assam and Meghalaya seek to accelerate infrastructure and other development projects with external financial assistance. Assam CM Sarma said the meeting was aimed at giving fresh momentum to capital expenditure and development activities across the Northeast.
