Assam Police SI Killed in Dima Hasao Hit-and-Run, Two Held

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run incident in Dima Hasao district that claimed the life of Sub-Inspector Nabajit Das, police said. Das, 38, was the in-charge of the Laisong Police Outpost under Mahur Police Station. He was conducting naka checking along with other police personnel at Laisong on Friday evening when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle bearing registration number AS 02 J 4335. The officer suffered critical injuries in the collision and was rushed to Haflong Civil Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival. Following the incident, the vehicle involved was recovered from the Laisong area. The driver and other persons travelling in the vehicle had reportedly fled the spot. Police subsequently launched a search operation across different locations in and around Laisong. During a late-night operation, two persons were apprehended from separate locations in the area. Police said two other persons allegedly linked to the incident are still absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest them. An investigation has also been launched to establish the circumstances leading to the accident and determine the exact role of those arrested. Police Pay Final Tribute to Nabajit Das The Dima Hasao Police fraternity paid its final tribute to SI Nabajit Das on Friday following his death while performing official duty. The tribute ceremony was attended by Dima Hasao SSP Ripunjoy Kakoti, Commanding Officer of 26 Assam Rifles Colonel Rakesh Krishnan, Additional SP Faruque Ahmed, Additional SP Luit Talukdar and other police personnel and officials. The police department expressed grief over the death of Das, who lost his life while carrying out a vehicle-checking operation ahead of Independence Day. Das, a resident of Udalguri district, had previously served at Bokoliaghat and Diphu police stations in Karbi Anglong before being posted at Laisong.
