BESCOM officials under fire over alleged illegal power connection to six-storey building
A six-storey building in Vijaya Bank Layout allegedly received a 24 kW electricity connection despite questions over building approvals and mandatory documents, raising concerns over possible violations by BESCOM officials. Allegations have surfaced against BESCOM officials for allegedly granting an electricity connection to a six-storey building in Vijaya Bank Layout, which comes under the Hulimavu O&M jurisdiction, in violation of government and BESCOM rules. The newly constructed building comprises a ground floor and five floors. The building belongs to Shwetha B.C. and is located at Site No. 57, Khata No. 33/57, Krishna Layout. According to the information provided, the building has been given a 24 kW electricity connection. Applications for 8-metre RR numbers were registered on February 17, 2025. As per the government and BESCOM requirements mentioned in the complaint, documents have to be verified before granting an electricity connection. These include the sanctioned building plan approved by the GBA and the Occupancy Certificate. The rules cited in the complaint state that for sites measuring 1,200 square feet, electricity connections can be provided for buildings having Ground + 2 floors or Stilt + 3 floors. Despite this, the six-storey building has allegedly been provided with an electricity connection. The allegations specifically name Assistant Engineer Kokila R. and Junior Engineer Hemanth Raj, accusing them of granting the connection in violation of the rules. The complaint further alleges that the electricity connection was granted illegally and raises an allegation that the sanction was provided for monetary considerations. The matter concerns the alleged violation of BESCOM rules in providing electricity service to the six-storey building and the role of the concerned AE and JE in granting the connection.
