Bihar TRE 4 notification out for 32,388 posts amid aspirants' protest threat
New Delhi: The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) on Tuesday released the TRE 4 notification for 32,388 school teacher posts on a day when teacher aspirants threatened to begin an indefinite hunger strike over the delay in recruitment. The notification came amid mounting pressure from job aspirants, with student groups warning of larger protests if the recruitment process did not move forward. Aspirants had announced an indefinite fast in Patna from August 18 and also threatened to march towards the Assembly if their demands remained unaddressed. Under Advertisement No. 14/2026, BPSC invited online applications from eligible Indian candidates for 32,388 vacant school teacher posts under the Bihar Education Department. Applications will open on September 1 and candidates can apply until September 30. The fee payment window will also open on September 1, while September 29 will be the last date for payment. शुल्क भुगतान की अंतिम... pic.twitter.com/he42Gf3CQu — Bihar Public Service Commission (@BPSCOffice) August 18, 2026 Union Food Processing Industries Minister Chirag Paswan welcomed the recruitment announcement and linked it directly to the prolonged agitation by job aspirants. Paswan continues to serve as Union Minister for Food Processing Industries. In a post on X, Paswan said inviting applications for 32,388 teaching vacancies was a welcome decision and called it a success for "lakhs of students and aspirants" who had struggled for their demands for a long time. He said the recruitment would create new employment opportunities for young people while strengthening Bihar's education system. — युवा बिहारी चिराग पासवान (@iChiragPaswan) August 18, 2026 The release of the TRE 4 notification, however, is unlikely to immediately cool the wider student unrest in Bihar. Tejashwi Yadav's RJD announced a Lok Bhawan march in Patna on August 19 over paper leaks, unemployment, recruitment irregularities and alleged police brutality against protesting students. The party is also raising the July 25 Siwan incident in which a police constable fired four rounds from an AK-47 during a student protest. The Bihar government told the Supreme Court that the shots were fired in the air after the constable was surrounded and that nobody was injured by the AK-47 fire. Three protesters suffered firearm injuries in a separate firing involving a 9mm pistol, according to the state's affidavit. Tejashwi announced that the August 19 march would start from the RJD office and proceed towards Lok Bhawan, with party MPs, MLAs, MLCs and workers expected to participate. AK-47 जैसे आधुनिक हथियार के आवंटन की पूरी कमांड-चेन की भूमिका सामने आनी... pic.twitter.com/QrFhaeVLlM — Tejashwi Yadav (@yadavtejashwi) August 18, 2026 The Bihar protests have unfolded alongside wider student mobilisations over recruitment examinations. Aspirants recently held protests in Ranchi over JPSC and JSSC examinations, while Delhi's Jantar Mantar also witnessed demonstrations over examination and student-related demands. TRE 4 vacancies: Who gets how many posts? Of the 32,388 vacancies, 3,847 posts are for Classes 1 to 5, while 8,563 are for Classes 6 to 8. For secondary schools, 3,877 posts are for Classes 9 and 10, while the biggest share, 16,101 vacancies, is for Classes 11 and 12. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary had announced on July 29 that the Education Department sent the requisition for all 32,388 vacancies to BPSC. The formal advertisement now moves TRE 4 from government assurances and protest demands to the application stage, with the process scheduled to begin on September 1.
