Elephant’s decomposed carcass recovered from Odisha forest

A decomposed carcass of an elephant was recovered from the Ambatumba forest under the Raibania police station area in Odisha ’s Balasore district on Sunday, triggering concern among local residents and forest officials. The carcass was spotted by some local residents who had gone into the forest in the morning. They subsequently informed the Forest Department about the matter. Following the information, senior forest officials, along with a veterinary team, reached the spot and launched an investigation into the elephant’s death. Elephant Missing For Over 20 Days According to preliminary information, the elephant is suspected to have died around 20 days ago. The Ambatumba forest is reportedly home to around 19 elephants. However, one elephant had reportedly not been sighted for more than 20 days, raising suspicion that the recovered carcass could belong to the missing animal. Post-Mortem To Determine Cause Of Death The Forest Department will conduct a post-mortem examination and collect samples to determine the exact cause of death. Officials are examining the possibility of an accidental death as well as other causes. The possibility of the elephant being killed has also been kept under the scope of the investigation. The actual cause of death is expected to become clear after the post-mortem examination and laboratory reports are received.
