Four arrested in Balaji Jewellery heist in Chandanagar, Gold and Silver recovered

The case was registered at Chandanagar Police Station on August 1, 2026, based on a complaint filed by [...]<strong>HYDERABAD:</strong> Chandanagar police have solved the theft at Sri Balaji Jewellers in Gautami Nagar, Chandanagar, arresting four accused from Madhya Pradesh and recovering a melted gold bar weighing 59.220 grams and about two kilograms of silver anklets. The case was registered at Chandanagar Police Station on August 1, 2026, based on a complaint filed by shop owner Nookala Shiva Shankar. Between midnight of July 31 and August 1, unidentified individuals broke the locks of the jewellery shop, removed the exhaust fan from the rear wall, enlarged the opening and entered the premises. They then broke the locks of the storage room and stole gold and silver ornaments. The investigation revealed the involvement of four accused: Chotu @ Yogesh Mandeliya, 31, and Golu @ Rajesh Mandeliya, 35, both glass fitters from Gwalior district, Madhya Pradesh, Atul Sharma, 30, from Katha village, Bhind district, Madhya Pradesh; and Shyam Sundar Kushwaha, 30, a driver from Gwalior. <h2><strong>CCTV trail led to Gwalior</strong></h2> The Chandanagar Crime Team and CCS Team identified the accused after examining approximately 500 surveillance cameras. Upon learning that the thieves were in Gwalior, the teams rushed there to apprehend them, but the Gwalior police had already arrested them an hour earlier in connection with a separate house burglary case. The Chandanagar police subsequently took them into custody via Prisoner Transit warrants. During interrogation in police custody, the accused revealed they had hidden the stolen gold and silver jewellery at the residence of A3, Atul Sharma, in Katha village, Bhind district. <h2>Recovery and remand</h2> Acting on this information, a police team conducted a search at A3’s residence on September 13, 2026, in the presence of witnesses, and seized the melted gold bar and silver anklets. The accused also disclosed that another kilogram of silver had been sold to a shop owner named Ashish, who could not be located. The accused were brought from Gwalior and a scene reconstruction was conducted. They were produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. The operation involved Chandanagar Police Station Inspectors A. Sridhar Kumar and K. Pradeep Kumar, the Detective Crime staff, the CCS team and RC Puram Division ACP Ch. Y. The release stated they played a significant role in arresting the accused and recovering the stolen property under the supervision of Srinivas Kumar, and will be suitably rewarded for their services.
