Guwahati Hatigaon Murder Case: Police To Seek 7-Day Custody Of Ramanuj Goswami
Police will seek seven days’ custody of Ramanuj Goswami, who allegedly surrendered after the killing of a woman in Guwahati’s Bashisthpur, Hatigaon, area, the East Guwahati DCP said on Monday. According to the DCP, Tabu Ram Pegu, Ramanuj has confessed to killing the woman, identified as Riya. Police suspect that the murder was linked to an alleged illicit relationship. The DCP said the accused and the woman had been involved in a conflict for the past few days before the incident. A case has been registered at Hatigaon Police Station under case number 202/26, the officer said. The investigation is currently at a preliminary stage, and police are questioning the accused to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing. The DCP alleged that Goswami attacked Riya with a machete and subsequently dismembered her body. Police will produce Goswami before a court and seek seven days’ custody for further questioning and investigation, the DCP said. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
