In a shocking broad-daylight crime, a man killed his ‘girlfriend’ by slitting her throat in broad daylight in Odisha on Sunday, triggering shock and panic in the area. The brutal killing on a busy road at Bagdihi Chhak in Baripada city of Mayurbhanj district has raised serious questions over the safety of women in public areas. She sustained critical injuries and died at the spot due to profuse bleeding. Police reached the scene after receiving information about the fatal incident and took the accused into custody. The deceased ’s identity and other details are yet to be officially disclosed. Preliminary information suggests that the detained man maybe woman’s boyfriend or husband. However, the exact circumstances that led to the alleged attack remain unclear. Police are questioning the accused to establish what triggered the incident and determine the sequence of events. The body has been taken into police custody as part of the investigation . Another Woman Present Nearby Recounts The Horror “The incident occurred at around 12.00 Noon. Those two people (the victim woman and the accused man) were there, sitting and talking to each other. They were talking nicely. Then, I cannot say what suddenly happened. Since I was inside doing my duty, she came running to me,” a woman named Poma Soren said. “I don’t know when her throat had been cut, but suddenly she came to me and said, ‘Save me! Save me!’ I told her to come inside, and she came and sat. I gave her some water to drink. Then I saw that her throat was deeply cut. After making her sit and giving her water, I ran to the spot. There was a bedsheet of hers, so I brought it and tied it around her neck,” Poma Soren narrated. “First, I asked her, ‘What is your relationship with him?’ But she didn’t say anything. She wasn’t saying anything at that time. Finally, she said, ‘I love him.’ That’s all she said. She didn’t say anything else. She was alone,” Poma Soren added. No comments were received from the local police in this regard. The killing in a busy public place during broad daylight has caused concern among residents. Police said further details are expected to emerge as the probe progresses.
