Maharashtra has declared snakebite a notifiable disease, making reporting mandatory for healthcare facilities and doctors. The state recorded 1.29 lakh cases and 656 deaths between April 2023 and March 2026. The move will strengthen surveillance, identify high-risk areas and help ensure adequate anti-snake venom supplies.
