Mumbai passenger robbed in Bhubaneswar; 4 arrested

Ahead of the festive season, concerns over street crime have resurfaced in Bhubaneswar after a passenger from Mumbai was allegedly robbed by a group of miscreants on the pretext of offering him a lift. The incident reportedly took place on the night of September 9. According to police, the passenger was picked up in an autorickshaw from Bhubaneswar railway station. Instead of taking him to his intended destination, the accused allegedly took him beneath the Satsang Vihar Bridge. Threatened With Sword There, the miscreants reportedly threatened him with sharp weapons, including a sword and a kati, and robbed him of Rs 21,000. Following a complaint, Sahid Nagar Police launched an investigation and subsequently arrested four persons in connection with the case. The arrested accused include Santosh Maharana and Kunal Mallik, while two others have also been taken into custody. Police sources said the autorickshaw driver, who is suspected to have played a role in the incident, is still absconding. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest him. Safety During Festive Season The incident has triggered fresh concern over the safety of passengers arriving in the state capital, particularly at night. With the festive season approaching and passenger movement expected to increase, the case has once again highlighted the need for heightened vigilance around railway stations, major roads and transit points. Further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused were involved in similar robbery cases in the city.
