Passenger boat stranded in Odisha’s Chilika Lake for 2 hours; 10 people rescued
Ten passengers were safely rescued on Monday after a passenger boat carrying them from Satapada to Janhikuda got stranded in the morning amidst Chilika Lake in Odisha's Puri district due to a mechanical failure. The vessel was carrying 10 passengers at the time. The boat initially remained stranded in the middle of the lake for around 40 minutes, leaving the passengers anxious as water levels in the area were reportedly high. At that point, no immediate rescue operation was visible, according to the information available. Another Boat Tows Stranded Vessel To Janhikuda Ghat The situation, however, was brought under control after another passenger boat carrying people and vehicles approached the area. The occupants of the second boat noticed the stranded vessel and came to its assistance. Using a rope, the second boat towed the stranded boat through the lake towards Janhikuda Ghat. After nearly two hours, the vessel finally reached the shore, bringing relief to the passengers. All 10 passengers on board were brought to safety without any casualties. The incident highlights the challenges faced by passengers travelling across Chilika when boats encounter mechanical problems in the middle of the water body.
