HYDERABAD: Telangana Revenue, Housing and Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said the government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, was pursuing a firm policy to protect government land and would not compromise on the issue. He said the government was taking strict action to prevent encroachment of public land while pursuing legal […]Government steps up efforts to resolve long-pending land disputes Ponguleti said several disputes involving valuable government land had continued for decades in the past because of inadequate monitoring and coordination. The government had now taken up a special action plan to address the situation, he added. Officials were comprehensively examining old land records, revenue documents and legal issues to protect the government's rights over such properties, he said. The minister cited the Supreme Court verdict in favour of the Telangana government in the case involving 400 acres at Kanche Gachibowli as a key achievement in the protection of government land. He said the Supreme Court had recently delivered another favourable verdict to the state government in connection with the Miyapur land dispute. This was another indication of the government's efforts to protect public land through legal proceedings, he added. Supreme Court verdicts reflect coordinated legal efforts The two cases reflected the chief minister's personal initiative and the Revenue Department's efforts to protect government properties, Ponguleti said. He said it was significant that the Supreme Court had ruled in favour of the government in disputes involving valuable land that had remained unresolved for the past two decades. The outcomes were the result of the government's commitment, coordination among officials and sustained legal efforts, he added. The minister specifically congratulated revenue officials, legal experts and government lawyers who had effectively represented the government's position in court and played a key role in securing the verdicts in its favour. Government warns against attempts to encroach on public land Ponguleti said government land did not belong to any individual or organisation but was a shared asset of the people of the state. The government had a responsibility to protect these properties, keeping in mind the interests of both present and future generations, he said. He warned that the government would not tolerate encroachments or attempts to secure illegal rights over public land. "Protecting government land means protecting public wealth. Our government's objective is not limited to preventing encroachments; it is also to effectively defend the government's rights in courts. The victories in the Kanche Gachibowli and Miyapur land cases demonstrate our government's commitment in this direction. We will continue to take stronger measures to protect government land under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's leadership. There will be no compromise when it comes to safeguarding public assets," Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy said. ]]>
