‘This Is False’: Govt Rejects Foreign Influence Claim Over New UPI Merchant Fee
The government has rejected claims that foreign pressure influenced the new UPI MDR framework. From October 15, a 0.4% MDR will apply to specified merchant payments above Rs 2,000, while P2P transactions and most merchant payments will remain free. The Finance Ministry says the measure aims to make UPI self-sustaining.
