Former Tehelka editor-in-chief Tarun Tejpal surrendered at a Goa court to serve a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence for a 2013 sexual assault. Initially acquitted by a trial court in May 2021, that decision was overturned by the Bombay High Court on August 6, which convicted him based on survivor testimony, CCTV footage, and digital evidence. Following the conviction, Tejpal challenged the order in the Supreme Court, while the state sought a life sentence. The Supreme Court rejected his request for a surrender exemption, setting a deadline that led to his surrender and transfer to Colvale Central Jail, with his appeal slated for a Supreme Court hearing.
