Donald Trump has downplayed a report that Chinese entities may have supplied Iran with high-resolution satellite imagery of the Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan before and after a missile strike that killed three American soldiers. US officials cited by The Wall Street Journal reportedly believe the imagery could have assisted Iranian targeting and damage assessment. However, Washington has not publicly identified the alleged providers, disclosed its supporting intelligence or established how Iran used the images. China has rejected the allegations as groundless. Asked about the report aboard Air Force One, Trump said China was doing what the United States also does and described Xi Jinping as having behaved “reasonably well.” The response comes ahead of Xi’s expected White House visit on September 24.
