ABVP unveils DUSU poll panel, fields Yash Dabas for president

New Delhi: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Friday announced its candidates for all four central panel posts in the Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) Elections 2026-27, naming Yash Dabas as its presidential nominee. According to an official release, Ishu Maurya will contest for the post of Vice President, while Riya Chhawadi has been fielded for Secretary. Lakshya Raj Singh will contest for the post of Joint Secretary. The student organisation said its election campaign would focus on issues affecting everyday campus life, including infrastructure, quality of education, women's safety and making the students' union more active and accountable. Safe accommodation for students will also figure prominently in ABVP's campaign. The organisation said it would continue its 'Aakhir Kab Tak?' initiative, launched following the Satya Niketan incident, to raise concerns over the safety of paying guest accommodations and other student housing. ABVP National General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki said the organisation would seek votes on the basis of its work over the past year. "Last year, students entrusted ABVP with the responsibility of leading DUSU. Over the past year, we have consistently raised issues concerning students and worked towards their resolution," Solanki said. He added that improving academic facilities and campus infrastructure, besides ensuring safety for students, particularly women, would remain among the organisation's priorities. Solanki also said DUSU should remain accessible to students throughout the year and respond consistently to their concerns. ABVP Delhi Secretary Sarthak Sharma, meanwhile, targeted rival student groups, claiming that students could distinguish between organisations that remained active on campus throughout the year and those that became visible only during elections. Sharma said ABVP had remained connected with students and continued to raise issues concerning them. Referring to the Satya Niketan incident, he said it had brought greater attention to concerns over the safety of PG accommodation used by students. He said the 'Aakhir Kab Tak?' campaign would continue as part of ABVP's effort to push for safer accommodation, while its broader election campaign would focus on what the organisation described as practical solutions to student concerns.
