Air India Sacks Phuket-Delhi Pilot After Positive Drug Test | AAIB Report Reveals Shocking Details

Air India has terminated the employment of the pilot-in-command of its Phuket-Delhi flight after he tested positive for a psychoactive substance, following a serious in-flight incident on August 4, 2026. The airline said it follows a zero-tolerance approach to breaches involving safety, fitness and regulatory standards.The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) preliminary report has revealed that flight AI 2379, an Airbus A320, experienced a near-simultaneous loss of pressure in all three hydraulic systems while cruising at around 36,000 feet. The incident triggered an autopilot disconnect, a stall warning and an altitude upset, leaving 24 people injured.The AAIB said the pilot-in-command tested “non-negative” for a psychoactive substance in a confirmatory test and recommended that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) take appropriate action to prevent substance abuse among aviation personnel.
