‘LOCKED ONTO LINCOLN!’: Iran Targets U.S. Aircraft Carrier With Cruise Missile In Deadly Showdown
Iran’s Navy says it located, tracked and targeted the USS Abraham Lincoln with a strategic cruise missile during the opening phase of the war. Rear Admiral Jalil Moghadam, Deputy Coordinator of the Iranian Navy, told Iran’s official IRNA news agency that Iranian forces began locating American naval assets immediately after hostilities began on February 28. He claims the Abraham Lincoln’s position was established within the first two days using multiple surveillance methods, including visual confirmation, before Iranian forces launched a cruise missile towards the carrier. The United States has not confirmed in the supplied material that the Abraham Lincoln was struck. Moghadam also claims Iran conducted more than 20 successful operations against American warships and around 300 missile and drone operations against US interests elsewhere. Tehran is presenting the Abraham Lincoln episode as evidence that even a heavily protected US carrier strike group could be located and targeted.
