NH-702A partially restored at New Colony, single-lane traffic allowed

Morung Express NewsZunheboto | September 8Vehicular movement along the landslide-affected stretch of National Highway-702A at New Colony, Zunheboto, has been partially restored, with a single lane now opened for traffic.The stretch had been completely cut off following a major landslide on August 17, disrupting vehicular movement along the Zunheboto–Mokokchung road. The affected portion has now been temporarily made motorable to facilitate the movement of vehicles through the landslide zone. Road signage and warning banners have been installed at the site to alert commuters about the continuing risks posed by the unstable stretch. The temporary single-lane section has also been supported with sacks along the vulnerable portion as an interim safety measure.NHIDCL officials in Zunheboto informed that the sinking of the road has presently stopped, allowing limited vehicular movement. However, due to the vulnerability of the affected area, only light vehicles are being permitted to ply through the restored section.Heavy vehicles have been diverted through the old Assam Rifles Check Gate area as a precautionary measure to reduce pressure on the vulnerable road section.Officials further stated that permanent restoration and major road works are expected to commence in November, considering the ongoing rainy season and prevailing ground conditions.
