Supreme Court Flags Open Firecracker Sales In Delhi, Seeks Centre’s Action Ahead Of Diwali | News18

The Supreme Court has raised serious concerns over reports of firecrackers being openly sold in Delhi markets despite restrictions imposed ahead of Diwali, putting the spotlight on the enforcement of its orders. A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale took note of a Hindustan Times report documenting the sale of different varieties of firecrackers in the national capital. Referring to the report, Justice Sundresh told Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati to look into the matter, observing that licensed and unlicensed crackers, with or without QR codes, appeared to be available in the markets. The court has asked the Centre, Delhi government and police to take necessary steps to ensure compliance. The report also alleged that conventional firecrackers were being supplied on demand and that some products were being passed off as green crackers despite questionable or missing QR codes. n18oc_breakingnewsCNN-News18 is your trusted source for breaking news, updates, and in-depth analysis from around the world.
