Supreme Court Sets Priorities For CJP Protest Probe, Orders Witness Protection And Confidentiality
The Supreme Court has laid down a specific priority list for its High-Powered Enquiry Committee probing violence during the July CJP protests. The HPEC will examine allegations involving pellet guns, targeted violence and harassment of female protesters, injuries to police personnel, excessive force and property destruction. The court has refused to reconstitute the panel, stressing fairness and transparency. It has also ordered protection and confidentiality for vulnerable witnesses, including a 14-year-old girl facing alleged threats. Broader constitutional questions, including facial recognition, will be considered separately by the Supreme Court.
