X ends revenue sharing programme, shifts creator payouts to original content

X is replacing its existing Revenue Sharing programme with a new Original Content Rewards Program, changing how creators earn money on the platform. X stopped accepting new enrollments for Revenue Sharing on August 7, 2026. Existing participants will continue earning through September 7 and will receive three final payouts during the transition - two on August 14 and August 28, followed by a final payment for earnings through September 7, expected around September 11. From September 8, existing Revenue Sharing participants will be able to apply for the Original Content Rewards Program, subject to its eligibility requirements. Creators who have already completed ID verification and connected a valid payout method will not need to repeat those steps. Under the new programme, eligible creators will earn from qualified impressions generated by their original content. X defines qualified impressions as unique impressions from Premium users, including Premium Basic, Premium, Premium+, and Premium Business subscribers, on the Home Timeline where at least 50% of the post is visible. Impressions that are paid, promoted, artificially generated or fraudulent will not count. Payouts will be issued every two weeks as long as creators and their content continue to meet the programme requirements. The first payout under the new programme is scheduled for August 28. Existing Revenue Sharing creators who enroll from September 8 will receive their first payment on September 25. The following are the eligibility criteria for the program: Creators must be at least 18 years old Must be living in an eligible country Have an account in good standing and use a Personal or Business account Must be subscribed to X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business Have at least 500 verified followers Record at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the previous 90 days Regularly post original content The programme covers original writing, threads, articles, reporting, analysis, photos, videos, memes, graphics and commentary that adds meaningful perspective to existing conversations. Content using material from other creators can qualify when it adds substantial original context, analysis, narration, humour or creative editing. Content that is copied or substantially reproduced from another creator, downloaded and reuploaded, created using automated means or focused exclusively on monetisation and maximising payouts will not qualify. X also excludes content containing disinformation or misleading information, as well as content that violates its policies. Creators will also need to maintain their eligibility after joining. This includes continuing to subscribe to an eligible Premium plan, posting original and authentic content, avoiding fraudulent activity and not using bots or automated tools to artificially generate engagement.
